Baccarat is a card game with very few decisions, which is why it looks easy. This page explains the general rules so your first look at a table is informed rather than hopeful.
In a standard round, two hands are dealt, usually called Player and Banker, and the hand whose total is closest to nine wins. You do not play the cards yourself. Your only decision is which outcome to back before the cards appear: Player, Banker or a tie. Rules for drawing a third card are fixed by the table, so the round runs itself once bets are in. Specific tables can differ in details, so read the rules shown on any table you open.
A few simple facts about card values cover most of what you will see when a hand is shown on the table.
Cards two to nine are worth their number, and an ace counts as one.
Ten, jack, queen and king add nothing to a hand.
A total of fifteen is treated as five, because the tens digit is dropped.
A hand worth eight or nine on the first two cards is usually called natural.
Every outcome carries a built-in house edge, so patterns do not change the long-run result.
A shoe cannot owe you a win. Past rounds do not make the next one more likely to favour a side.
Ties are rare, which is why they pay more, but they do not reduce the edge and often increase it.
Decide the amount you are happy to lose, because it is entertainment spending, not an investment.
